11:02 AM EDT, 07/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Ginkgo Bioworks ( DNA ) said Wednesday it has been awarded a $4.66 million contract by the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a US Department of Energy Office of Science user facility, to build and install an automated anaerobic phenotyping platform.
The system, to be housed at EMSL's Richland, Washington campus, will feature 18 different devices within a modular anaerobic chamber designed in partnership with EMSL and driven by the company's Reconfigurable Automation Cart technology to improve lab throughput, efficiency, and data quality while minimizing manual input, according to Ginkgo.
Once installed, the platform will allow EMSL scientists and facility users to remotely conduct complex phenotyping workflows, the company said.
Shares of Ginkgo Bioworks ( DNA ) were up 2% in recent trading Wednesday.
