Google Introduces Arm-Based Data Center Processor

08:51 AM EDT, 04/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) on Tuesday introduced its first custom Arm-based processor designed for data centers.

The chip, called Axion, provides "up to 30% better performance" compared with the "fastest general-purpose Arm-based instances available in the cloud today," Google ( GOOG ) said in a blog post.

Google ( GOOG ) also said that Axion's performance is up to 50% better and its energy efficiency is up to 60% better compared with current-generation x86-based instances.

The chip will be available to Google Cloud customers later in 2024, according to Google ( GOOG ).

Alphabet shares were up 1.3% in premarket activity.
