05:48 AM EDT, 09/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) said Tuesday it will invest 5 billion British pounds ($6.82 billion) in the UK over the next two years to support artificial intelligence developments.
The new data center in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, which is intended to meet demand for Google Cloud, Workspace, Search and Maps, is part of the investment.
Google ( GOOG ) said the investment will include capital expenditure, research and development, and related engineering, encompassing AI research in science and health care through its Google DeepMind unit.
The company said it has selected Shell (SHEL) to manage and optimize its renewable energy supply in the UK. It expects the investment in the UK to create 8,250 jobs annually.
