Former agriculture secretary Siraj Hussain on Monday said the government 'essential commodity act' for three years to elevate the falling prices of agri products.
The abeyance of the act for three years and no restrictions on exports may affect the sentiment for raising the prices, said Hussain.
With regards to channa, he said maybe the government is sitting with too much of stock and therefore, the farmers may not have seen in any profit in the product.
On lower tur prices, Hussain said the prices should have been at the highest this time because Kharif is harvested in July and Tur is harvested in January and if the prices are low even after the arrival of new crop, it could mean they would go down further at peak time.
