Hong Kong fuel supplier sues Jet Airways over unpaid bills, says report
May 12, 2019 4:12 AM

Jet Airways has been sued by a Hong Kong-based fuel supplier over a $1.1 million bill, reported the South China Morning Post. Sinopec (Hong Kong) Aviation Company has alleged that India’s oldest private carrier failed to make payments despite repeated demands, said the report.

The documents filed on Thursday in the Hong Kong High Court claimed that Jet Airways had agreed back in April 2018 to buy jet fuel from Sinopec. They started to supply fuel to the carrier starting from March 1. However, the lawyer of the group claimed that the agreement soon fell apart after Jet Airways defaulted on payment and ignored demand letters to settle the bill, added the report.

The disputed bill covers fuel supplied from March 1 to 22 and amounts to a sum of US $1,103,683.29, according to the South China Morning Post report.

The details of the case emerged on 10 May, the same day as the deadline for investors to submit bids to bail out Jet Airways, which has grounded all flights since April 17 after it failed to secure funding.
