India's exports of basmati rice to Belgium and Netherlands have surged in the first eight months of the current financial year, said reports.

“India’s basmati exports to the European Union (EU) has shown a phenomenal growth during the period from April to November 2020 registering a growth of about 71 percent as compared to same period last year,” Anil Mittal, CMD of KRBL said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.
“India exported around 140,000 tonne of brown rice to the UK. Netherlands takes second place with 78 percent growth from 31,000 tonne to 56,000 tonne in 2020 and Italy comes third with India exporting 15,818 tonne in 2020 compared to 6,800 tonne in 2019,”he said.
“We are not very big player in exports to Europe. Our exports to Europe this year have been about 3,000 tonne of India Gate Basmati rice. We have even exported brown rice but the quality is Rs 6,000 tonne,” he mentioned.
“Our Q3 sales have been better than pre-COVID levels,” he said.
The company is keen to restructure the energy business, he said.
