01:19 PM EST, 01/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Intuitive Surgical ( ISRG ) said Tuesday it plans to establish a direct presence in Italy, Portugal and Spain and that it signed a deal to acquire the distribution businesses involving da Vinci and Ion devices in the three countries as well as in Malta and San Marino.

The company said the deal has been finalized with the current distributors of the robotic-assisted surgery platforms including ab medica, Abex, Excelencia Robotica, and their affiliates.

The transaction is anticipated to close in 2026, subject to approvals and other closing conditions, it said. Upon completion of the transaction, Intuitive said it will integrate the distribution businesses into its European commercial and marketing operations.

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

ISRG shares were 1.6% higher in recent trading.
