02:27 PM EST, 11/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- JBS (JBS) USA agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle allegations by New York Attorney General Letitia James that the company misled consumers about its plans to achieve "net zero" greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
The attorney general's office said JBS USA made public claims about reducing emissions without having a plan to achieve the target. The company also continued to make the claims after an industry review board found they were unsupported.
Proceeds from the settlement will support climate-smart agriculture programs in New York aimed at helping farmers reduce emissions and improve sustainability. Under the settlement, JBS USA will also reform its environmental marketing practices and submit annual compliance reports to the attorney general's office for three years.
Shares of JBS were up 2% in recent trading.
