JD Founder Richard Liu Reportedly Outlines Plans to Revitalize Company
Jun 18, 2025 5:04 AM

07:32 AM EDT, 06/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- JD.com ( JD ) founder Richard Liu outlined plans to revitalize the company after what he called five years of stagnation, multiple news outlets reported Wednesday, citing Chinese media and a company spokesperson.

Liu reportedly highlighted ambitions to expand into catering, hotel, and tourism industries, leveraging JD's logistics strengths to support growth.

Liu also outlined plans for overseas expansion, competing with Meituan in food delivery and travel - a move he described as the boldest effort to revive the company, Bloomberg News reported.

Liu acknowledged JD's struggles since a 2020 government crackdown, saying that the past five years "should be considered the most unremarkable and least-valuable five years in my entrepreneurial history," according to news outlets.

JD did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
