06:13 AM EDT, 09/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alibaba Group Holding ( BABA ) and ByteDance are among the major Chinese technology companies that were recently informed by the Cyberspace Administration of China to terminate their testing and orders of Nvidia's ( NVDA ) RTX Pro 6000D artificial intelligence chips, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.
The RTX Pro 6000D is the US chipmaking giant's tailor-made product for China that was introduced two months ago, according to the report.
Several Chinese firms had indicated they would order tens of thousands of the chips and had commenced testing and verification work with Nvidia's ( NVDA ) server suppliers before asking them to stop the work after receiving the order from China's internet regulator, the unnamed sources told the publication.
Chinese regulators have recently summoned Huawei and other local chipmakers, as well as Alibaba ( BABA ) and Baidu ( BIDU ) , which make their own semiconductors, to report how their products compare against Nvidia's ( NVDA ) chips custom-made for China, the FT reported, citing one of the people with knowledge of the matter.
These companies have remarked that China's AI processors are now at a stage that's comparable to or better than that of the Nvidia ( NVDA ) products allowed under export controls, the person told the publication.
Nvidia ( NVDA ), Alibaba ( BABA ) and ByteDance didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were down 1% in recent premarket activity, while Baidu ( BIDU ) jumped 8.4%. Alibaba ( BABA ) was up 2.4%.
