08:22 AM EST, 01/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) Chief Executive Sundar Pichai recently told employees he believes the company's Gemini artificial intelligence technology has "surpassed" competitors and set a goal of 500 million users for the Gemini chatbot by the end of 2025, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

Gemini was ranked 54th among the most downloaded free apps on iPhones as of Wednesday, while rival ChatGPT, with about 300 million weekly users, ranked 4th, according to the report.

Alphabet did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
