Market Chatter: Amazon Agrees to $80 Million Deal With Comedian Dax Shepard for Podcast
Jul 11, 2024 10:11 AM

12:50 PM EDT, 07/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) has agreed to a roughly $80 million deal to have comedian Dax Shepard transition his podcast to the company's Wondery platform, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Under the deal, Shepard will shift his "Armchair Expert" show from Spotify ( SPOT ) and grant Amazon's ( AMZN ) Wondery the exclusive rights to distribute and sell ads for the podcast, the report said.

Amazon's ( AMZN ) Wondery+ subscribers will be able to listen to the podcast a week early and without ads before "Armchair Expert" is distributed on other platforms like platforms like Apple Podcasts (AAPL) and Spotify ( SPOT ), according to the report.

Shepard will also reportedly co-produce two new podcasts under the deal and live stream his show each year. Amazon ( AMZN ) will also receive a so-called first-look option for any new podcasts Shepard creates.

Amazon ( AMZN ) and Shepard did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
