02:44 PM EDT, 08/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) is considering launching a standalone app for its payments service in India to boost Amazon Pay usage, TechCrunch reported Monday, citing three sources familiar with the matter.

The e-commerce giant has been exploring the idea for about a year and plans to proceed with the plan in the next few months, the sources reportedly told TechCrunch.

Amazon ( AMZN ) has already sought approval from the National Payments Corp. of India, the report said, citing another person.

Some insiders believe a dedicated app could give Amazon Pay more visibility, though the plan is still under discussion and may change, one of the people reportedly told TechCrunch.

Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
