Market Chatter: Apple to Rename Operating Systems With Year-Based Labels

03:57 PM EDT, 05/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) plans to rename its operating systems using the upcoming year instead of version numbers, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

iOS 18 will be replaced by "iOS 26," while other platforms like iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS will also adopt the "26" branding, the report said.

Apple ( AAPL ) will formally announce the rebranding at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, according to the report.

Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
