07:04 AM EDT, 10/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) is said to be cooperating with Italian prosecutors who accused two sub-contractors and seven people of violating airplane safety requirements, Reuters reported Saturday, citing the prosecutors.
The prosecutors launched their probe in late 2021 after the jet maker alleged that some parts supplied by an unnamed firm for its 787 Dreamliner plane were improperly developed, the report added.
The investigation found that two Italian sub-contractors used non-compliant forms of titanium and aluminum to manufacture select parts, the report said, citing the prosecutors.
"This resulted in the realization of airplane parts with significantly lower static and stress resistance characteristics, with repercussions on aviation safety," Reuters quoted the prosecutors as saying.
According to aerospace experts working with prosecutors, at least 4,829 titanium and 1,158 aluminum components manufactured were non-compliant, the report added, citing the prosecutors.
Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newsires' request for comment.
