Market Chatter: Boeing to Send Layoff Notices to Thousands of Workers
Oct 15, 2024 5:50 AM

08:12 AM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Thousands of Boeing's ( BA ) staff are to receive layoff notices within the coming weeks, Reuters reported Monday citing a union and industry sources.

The aerospace company plans to send out 60-day notices next month to thousands of workers that will include many in its commercial aviation division, one source said, adding that a second phase of notices may be rolled out in December if needed.

A spokesperson for the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, which represents Boeing ( BA ) engineers, said that the company informed the union on Monday that it will issue 60-day notices to its members on Nov. 15, according to the report.

A Boeing ( BA ) spokesperson told Reuters that the company had shared information with managers including plans for 10% reductions at its commercial unit.

The report also said that the planemaker will avoid asking for voluntary departures to limit severance payments and an exodus of talent, relying solely on involuntary layoffs, according to the sources.

Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
