04:19 PM EDT, 04/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing's ( BA ) new chairman, Steve Mollenkopf, canceled planned formal meetings with top executives of the company's largest US customers and instead is contacting them directly as the aircraft maker faces safety and production issues on its 737 Max jetliner, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Chief executive officers of American Airlines ( AAL ) , Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) , United Airlines (UAL) and Alaska Airlines (ALK) had sought to discuss issues such as an accident involving a 737 Max 9 in January directly with Boeing ( BA ) directors, excluding CEO Dave Calhoun, according to the report,
Boeing ( BA ), American and United declined comment, and Southwest ( LUV ) and Alaska Airlines didn't immediately respond to a request for comment, Bloomberg reported.
Boeing ( BA ), American Airlines ( AAL ) and Alaska Air ( ALK ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires, while United declined to comment.
A Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) spokesperson said the company "communicates with Boeing's ( BA ) leaders on a regular basis (and) we don't discuss details about specific conversations."
