08:29 AM EDT, 06/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- BP's (BP) liquefied natural gas and gas fields have attracted takeover interest from Abu Dhabi National Oil, or Adnoc, which is internally assessing the potential acquisition of the assets should the British energy firm divest more units or consider a breakup, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.
Adnoc has held preliminary talks with bankers and may team up with another bidder to split certain assets, the report said.
While a full takeover of BP was considered, Adnoc is reportedly most interested in BP's LNG and gas fields and may also consider acquiring BP's fuel retail business, according to the report.
Any deal would likely be made through Adnoc's new international unit, XRG, Bloomberg said.
BP told MT Newswires that the company does not "comment on speculation or rumor." Adnoc referred MT Newswires to XRG, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
