12:47 PM EDT, 10/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Brookfield Asset Management ( BAM ) is in exclusive talks to acquire two inactive nuclear reactors in South Carolina from Santee Cooper in a potential multi-billion-dollar deal aimed at meeting burgeoning power demand from AI data centers, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing Santee executives.
Santee Cooper and Brookfield need a construction partner and at least a year of due diligence before work on the on the dormant reactors can resume, the report said.
Construction of the reactors at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station stopped in 2017 after Santee Cooper and the plant's co-owner, now part of Dominion Energy, spent $9 billion, the report said.
Brookfield did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
