04:15 PM EDT, 03/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- About 600,000 barrels of Russia's daily oil refining capacity was knocked out over the weekend by Ukraine's drone strikes that hit several plants, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing estimates by Gunvor Group Chief Executive Torbjorn Tornqvist.
The attacks on Russia's refineries added upward pressure on oil prices during early trading on Monday.
"It is significant because obviously this is gonna hit the distillate exports straight away," Tornqvist was quoted as saying during an interview at S&P Global's CERAWeek conference Monday. "So that will probably take down exports by a couple of hundred thousand barrels, so to me it's a distillate problem."
Gunvor did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
