Market Chatter: Google Antitrust Probe Dropped by China
Sep 18, 2025 3:12 AM

05:40 AM EDT, 09/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- China's State Administration for Market Regulation has decided to drop its antitrust investigation into Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) unit Google ( GOOG ), the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing two people briefed on the decision.

The probe, which opened in February, focused on the dominance of the US technology giant's Android operating system and its related impact on Oppo, Xiaomi and other Chinese phone makers, according to the report.

The decision to drop the investigation has not been formally communicated to Google ( GOOG ), the FT reported, citing two people familiar with the situation.

The company and the SAMR didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.

Alphabet shares were up 1.4% in recent premarket activity.
