11:40 AM EDT, 06/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) filed a lawsuit in US federal court against LATAM Airlines Group ( LTM ) , based in Chile, seeking to block a Brazilian court from ordering the removal of a YouTube ( GOOG ) video in the US that accuses an airline worker of sexually abusing a child, Reuters reported Friday.
LATAM filed a lawsuit in Brazil in 2018 to have the video removed from YouTube ( GOOG ), and a Brazilian appeals court is considering whether it can require Google ( GOOG ) to delete the video worldwide, the report said.
In its lawsuit filed in San Jose, California, Google ( GOOG ) argues that foreign courts cannot dictate content availability in the US, the report said.
The company has "long supported the legal principle that courts in a country have jurisdiction over content available in that country, but not over what content should be available in other countries," Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson Jose Castaneda said in a statement, according to Reuters
LATAM said it hasn't received any formal notice of the case yet, Reuters reported.
The video, posted in 2018 by a US citizen, features his 6-year-old son accusing a LATAM employee of sexual abuse while flying as an unaccompanied minor, the report said. LATAM faced a lawsuit in Florida, and the case ended in a confidential settlement, Reuters reported.
Alphabet and LATAM didn't immediately reply to request for comments from MT Newswires.
