08:47 AM EDT, 05/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) has been granted "a bit more time" to address the European Commission's concerns that a previous proposal fell short of bringing the company in compliance with competition rules, Reuters reported Friday, citing a spokesperson for the regulator.
"Google ( GOOG ) is engaging with the Commission to defend itself and in other in order to offer a solution that really addresses the concerns that were raised in the case and in the preliminary findings," Reuters quoted spokesperson Thomas Regnier as telling reporters.
The European Commission has accused Google ( GOOG ) of violating the Digital Markets Act, which regulates big tech companies.
"The reality for now is that the solution is simply not strong enough. So we're giving Google ( GOOG ) a bit more time to keep engaging with the Commission to offer a solution that really addresses the concerns in the interest of European businesses and European citizens," the spokesperson said.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
