01:08 PM EDT, 05/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- McDonald's (MCD) plans to launch a $5 meal deal in the US to attract budget-conscious customers, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The deal might include a McChicken or McDouble with fries, and a drink, the report said.

An attempt to get franchisees' support for the initiative failed earlier this year, Bloomberg said, citing its source.

The burger chain has asked Coca-Cola (KO) to contribute to this marketing campaign, though the amount has not been decided yet, according to the report.

McDonald's and Coca-Cola did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.

Shares of the burger chain were up 2.3% in recent Friday trading.
