Market Chatter: Meta Platform's AI Policies Allowed Chatbots to Engage in 'Sensual' Chats With Children
Aug 14, 2025 6:17 AM

08:52 AM EDT, 08/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms' ( META ) AI policies allowed chatbots to engage in "romantic or sensual" conversations with children, produce false medical information, and create inaccurate statements about race and other topics, Reuters reported Thursday, citing an internal policy document.

The "GenAI: Content Risk Standards" document sets guidelines for staff and contractors on what is deemed as acceptable chatbot behavior in training Meta AI and chatbots on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, Reuters reported.

Meta confirmed the document's authenticity but said it has since removed sections that stated chatbots were allowed to hold romantic conversations with children, the report said.

A Meta spokesperson told MT Newswires via email that its policies "do not allow provocative behavior with children," and that "erroneous and incorrect notes and annotations were added to the underlying document - that should not have been there and have since been remove[d]."

"We have clear policies on what kind of responses AI characters can offer, and those policies prohibit content that sexualizes children and sexualized role play between adults and minors," the spokesperson said.
