Market Chatter: Microsoft's Gaming Chief Eyes Acquisitions, Partnerships in Handheld and Mobile Markets
Nov 13, 2024 8:53 AM

08:55 AM EST, 11/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) remains open to acquisitions, particularly deals that enhance company's "geographic diversity", to expand its gaming reach, Microsoft Gaming Chief Phil Spencer told Bloomberg in a Tuesday interview.

Spencer noted that acquiring another mobile company would expand the titles Microsoft ( MSFT ) gained in its $69 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard last year, the report said. Still, there are no "imminent" deals, and large acquisitions are less in near-term as the company focuses on integrating Activision Blizzard employees, it added.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) seeks to diversify its game development teams by increasing its focus on China, Bloomberg said.

"The real opportunity is to partner with creative teams in China for global," Spencer was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.

Spencer emphasized interest in handheld gaming devices and said Microsoft ( MSFT ) is exploring concepts but is focusing on improving Xbox app compatibility with existing portable devices and collaborating with hardware makers for better user experiences, Bloomberg said.
