12:38 PM EDT, 06/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- OpenAI has been working on new features for ChatGPT that would allow users to collaborate on documents and communicate through ChatGPT, The Information reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the designs.
These features would position OpenAI in more direct competition with Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ) , with the latter being OpenAI's largest investor and a key business partner. It's still unclear if or when these features will be released, the report added.
Internally, OpenAI leaders like Product Chief Kevin Weil discussed and shared designs for document collaboration tools nearly a year ago, but the company lacked the resources to prioritize development at that time. Then, as a first step, the company launched a feature called Canvas in October, allowing users to more easily draft documents and code with AI, the report said.
OpenAI expects revenue from business subscriptions to ChatGPT to reach about $15 billion by 2030, up from $600 million in 2024, the report said, adding that a spokesperson for the company declined to comment.
Microsoft ( MSFT ), Google ( GOOG ), and OpenAI didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
