Market Chatter: OpenAI Says No Immediate Plans to Use Google's AI Chips Despite Early Testing
Jul 1, 2025 4:11 AM

06:53 AM EDT, 07/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- OpenAI has no current plans to use Google's ( GOOG ) in-house AI chips at scale, Reuters reported Tuesday, following reports suggesting a potential shift.

A spokesperson for OpenAI told Reuters that while the company is testing some of Google's ( GOOG ) Tensor Processing Units, large-scale deployment isn't planned.

OpenAI continues to rely heavily on Nvidia ( NVDA ) GPUs and AMD's (AMD) chips to meet growing AI demands, Reuters said, adding that the company is also developing its custom chip, with the design expected to reach the "tape out" stage later this year.

Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
