09:34 AM EST, 02/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is set to receive a $40 billion primary investment from SoftBank at a $260 billion pre-money valuation, CNBC's David Faber reported Friday, citing sources.

The new funding would make SoftBank the AI startup's top backer, surpassing Microsoft ( MSFT ), according to the report.

OpenAI and SoftBank did not immediately reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
