Market Chatter: OpenAI Signs Amazon Web Services Deal to Supply AI Tools to US Government
Mar 17, 2026 7:38 AM

10:27 AM EDT, 03/17/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI signed a deal with Amazon's ( AMZN ) Web Services to provide artificial intelligence tools to US government agencies for classified and unclassified work, aiming to expand public-sector reach and win corporate clients, The Information reported Tuesday, citing two unnamed people familiar with the situation.

The agreement allows OpenAI to support the Pentagon and other agencies through AWS infrastructure, filling a gap left after the US Department of Defense recently dropped rival provider Anthropic. AWS will market OpenAI's products to its government customers, with the two companies sharing the revenue, the people told The Information.

OpenAI and AWS didn't immediately reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
