Market Chatter: PepsiCo, Conagra Lobby White House to Exempt Imported Ingredients From Tariffs
Mar 13, 2025 4:50 AM

07:26 AM EDT, 03/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- PepsiCo ( PEP ) , Conagra (CAG), and J.M. Smucker (SJM) are asking the White House to grant them exemptions from tariffs on imports such as coffee, oats, cocoa, spices, tropical fruit and tin mill steel, Reuters reported late Wednesday, citing a letter sent by an industry lobby.

These consumer products makers are asking for exemptions from tariffs on ingredients that are not available from US sources, the report said, quoting the Consumer Brands Association's letter.

"We believe targeted and carefully calibrated removal of these ingredients and inputs from tariffs is appropriate to best protect U.S. manufacturers and support (Trump's) efforts to lower consumer inflation," the trade group said in the letter.

The Consumer Brands Association, PepsiCo ( PEP ), Conagra, and J.M. Smucker did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
