05:44 AM EDT, 03/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Snap's (SNAP) Snapchat and TikTok are among the social media apps that are seeing continued usage by Australian teenagers aged under 16 years two months after the country banned platforms from allowing minors, Reuters reported Friday, citing industry data.
Although the number of 13-to-15-year-olds using these apps dropped from before the ban took effect in December to February, still more than 20% used the apps, the news agency reported, citing a report by parental control software maker Qustodio.
The eSafety agency is communicating with the platforms and their age assurance providers to identify any widespread compliance violations, Reuters reported, citing a spokesperson.
Under the ban, Meta's (META) Instagram, Facebook and Threads, Google's ( GOOG ) YouTube ( GOOG ), TikTok, and Snapchat must block users aged below 16 or face a fine of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars ($34.9 million), according to the report.
YouTube ( GOOG ), Snapchat, and the eSafety Commissioner didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
