12:23 PM EDT, 07/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Suncor Energy ( SU ) (SU.TO, SU) is curtailing some production at its Firebag thermal oil sands project in northern Alberta with the site under threat from an out of control wildfire, Canadian Press reported.
The company has evacuated non-essential staff from the project site, while keeping the 235,000 barrel per day project ready to resume operations. The report did not say how much of the site's production has been cut.
"The Alberta government said the fire was approximately eight kilometres northeast of Suncor's Firebag main plant, 14 kilometres northeast of Suncor's Firebag Aerodrome and 16 kilometres east of Imperial Oil's Kearl oilsands facility," the report noted.
Suncor shares were last seen down $1.74 to $51.67 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
