Market Chatter: Texas Comptroller Welcomes Banks Despite Embargo List
Apr 16, 2024 10:36 AM

01:02 PM EDT, 04/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hegar said he wants as many banks involved in the state as possible even as he works on a so-called divestment list that can restrict a bank's ability to do business, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

Texas is looking into banks' environmental, social, and governance policies that contain financial firms that "boycott" the fossil fuels industry, the report said.

The list has 15 firms on it, including BlackRock ( BLK ) and UBS Group ( UBS ) --- both facing restrictions on government contracts in Texas, the report said.

Hegar said at a public finance conference that the process of creating the list has been transparent and the companies can choose to "agree or disagree" with it, the report said.

Neither BlackRock ( BLK ) nor UBS immediately responded to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
