06:59 AM EST, 02/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The White House is looking to modify the terms of the US CHIPS and Science Act, potentially delaying semiconductor funding, Reuters reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the situation.
The new administration is reviewing projects awarded under the 2022 legislation, which allocated $39 billion in subsidies to enhance domestic semiconductor production, the news outlet reported.
Changes to existing agreements are reportedly under consideration, but the specific impacts on finalized contracts remain unclear.
GlobalWafers, set to receive $406 million in US grants, told Reuters in a statement it has not been directly informed of any alterations to its award conditions, which are contingent on future milestones.
Reuters added that concerns have been raised regarding stipulations added by the Biden administration, including requirements for unionized labor and affordable childcare, as the Semiconductor Industry Association seeks to improve the program's framework.
The White House and the US Department of Commerce did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
