Market Chatter: Trump Health Officials Plan to Link Covid Shots to Child Deaths
Sep 12, 2025 10:56 AM

01:43 PM EDT, 09/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Health officials in the Trump administration are planning to link coronavirus vaccines to the deaths of 25 children, the Washington Post reported Friday, citing four people familiar with the situation.

Pfizer ( PFE ) shares fell 3%, BioNTech (BNTX) dropped 8.3%, Moderna ( MRNA ) declined 7% and Novavax ( NVAX ) shed 3.6% in recent Friday trading.

The officials plan to include the claim of pediatric deaths in a presentation next week to a panel of advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for an update to covid vaccine recommendations, affecting the availability and pricing of the shots, the Washington Post said.

The claims are based on the information submitted to the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, which has unverified reports of side effects submitted by anyone, including someone citing social media, the report said.

The presentation to CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is not final, according to one person familiar with the matter, the Washington Post said.

Pfizer ( PFE ), BioNTech, Moderna ( MRNA ) and Novavax ( NVAX ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
