05:51 AM EST, 11/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- President Donald Trump decided not to discuss the sale of Nvidia's ( NVDA ) new generation of artificial-intelligence chips, known as Blackwell, to China during his Oct. 30 meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing current and former US administration officials.
The request to discuss the sale came from Nvidia ( NVDA ) Chief Executive Jensen Huang, according to the news report.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Trump the sales would threaten national security, saying they would boost China's AI data center capabilities and backfire on the US, the officials were cited as saying.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick were among the others who opposed the approval, the officials told the Journal.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MTNewswires.
Nvidia's ( NVDA ) shares were down 2.1% in recent premarket activity on Tuesday.
