Market Chatter: Tyson Foods Reportedly Trimming Back Antibiotic-Free Beef Offerings
Jul 2, 2024 5:18 AM

07:58 AM EDT, 07/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tyson Foods ( TSN ) is scaling back its antibiotic-free beef products, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

Bloomberg cited a source as saying one client was told by Tyson late last year it could no longer supply antibiotic-free beef. Bloomberg also cited a document that said antibiotic-free beef under Tyson's Open Prairie Natural Meats brand would be limited starting in January.

Tyson said last summer it would begin using antibiotics on its products. It has also halted a nearly 20-year deal to sell antibiotic-free beef in partnership with Certified Angus Beef, Bloomberg reported. It cut back on the sale of antibiotic-free chicken in July 2023.

Tyson told Bloomberg any adjustments to its offerings were based on consumer demand. "We continue to offer antibiotic-free beef based on market demand, and our commitment to antibiotic stewardship has not changed," Bloomberg quoted the company as saying.

Tyson didn't immediately respond to an MT Newswires' request for comment.
