09:24 AM EDT, 03/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Unilever ( UL ) is being pressed by the Dutch government to list its ice cream business in the Netherlands, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a spokesperson for the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Minister of Economic Affairs Micky Adriaansens will soon meet with Unilever ( UL ) Chief Executive Hein Schumacher to talk about the company's listing plans, the report added, citing the spokesperson.

Unilever ( UL ) said Tuesday it plans to spin off its ice cream unit and cut 7,500 jobs under a plan to rein in costs.

Unilever ( UL ) declined Bloomberg's request for comment.

"This week, Unilever ( UL ) revealed that the ice cream division will be spun off. In doing so, the CEO said that the Netherlands is a good option for listing the ice cream division," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Economic Affairs told MT Newswires in an email. "This is a positive signal in line with previous commitments. We are and will remain in discussion with Unilever ( UL ) on this."

Unilever ( UL ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
