Market Chatter: UnitedHealth Group Blames Hospital Error for Call to Surgeon
Feb 19, 2025 11:45 AM

02:26 PM EST, 02/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- UnitedHealth Group's ( UNH ) call to a Texas surgeon was caused by a hospital error that led to investor Bill Ackman questioning the company's profitability, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing UnitedHealth ( UNH ).

The company hired law firm Clare Locke to counter social media posts criticizing the insurer that it says are inaccurate, according to the report.

The patient was not responsible for the erroneous bill and their member plan covered the surgery and overnight stay at a minimal cost, UnitedHealth ( UNH ) reportedly said.

UnitedHealth ( UNH ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
