01:33 PM EST, 11/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- UnitedHealth Group ( UNH ) unit UnitedHealthcare's out-of-network billing practices were revealed in newly unsealed court documents, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
The records shed light on the company's battle with private equity-backed physician groups who have accused it of shortchanging clinicians who are outside its insurance network, with such battles often ending up in court, the report said.
In one such lawsuit, UnitedHealth ( UNH ) prevailed and accused Blackstone-backed (BX) physician group TeamHealth, which brought the lawsuit in Oklahoma, of raising costs, the report said. TeamHealth requested the court to unseal records from the trial after the verdict.
A UnitedHealthcare spokesperson told Bloomberg that TeamHealth has a practice of overcharging consumers and the system with double, sometimes triple the rates, of in-network health care providers.
TeamHealth accused the company for refusing contracts at fair rates, adding that it won most arbitration disputes, according to the report.
UnitedHealth ( UNH ) and TeamHealth didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
