10:11 AM EDT, 08/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US is looking at ways to equip artificial intelligence chips with better location-tracking capabilities, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing a senior government official.
"There is discussion about potentially the types of software or physical changes you could make to the chips themselves to do better location-tracking," Bloomberg quoted Michael Kratsios, director of White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, as saying.
Washington has been working with the industry to track sensitive semiconductor components, as it looks to curtail smuggling of the technology, according to the report. Nvidia ( NVDA ) representatives were asked by Beijing last week to explain alleged security risks related to its AI chips sold to China.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
