Market Chatter: US Plans to Charge Fees on China-Linked Ships
Mar 7, 2025 4:07 AM

06:55 AM EST, 03/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Trump administration plans to impose fees for docking at US ports on any ship that is part of a fleet that includes Chinese-built or Chinese-flagged vessels, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a draft executive order.

The US is proposing to charge fee on any vessel that enters a local port, "regardless of where it was built or flagged, if that vessel is part of a fleet that includes vessels built or flagged in the PRC (People's Republic of China)," Reuters reported, citing the order.

The order also urges US officials to engage allies and partners to undertake similar actions or risk retaliation, according to the report.

The US administration and Chinese officials could not be immediately reached for comment, Reuters reported.

The US trade representative's office did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
