04:13 PM EDT, 09/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Social media platform X has requested permission from Brazil's Supreme Court to restart its services in the country, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter.
In late August, X was shut down in Brazil for not complying with court orders related to content moderation for hate speech and appointing a local representative, according to the report.
X provided the court with a document showing it formally appointed Rachel de Oliveira Conceicao as its legal representative in Brazil and blocked nine accounts being investigated for hate speech and false information, the source reportedly said.
The company also paid 18 million reais ($3.3 million) in fines, the source was quoted as saying, according to the news outlet.
X did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
