12:59 PM EDT, 04/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) said Tuesday it has launched a standalone Meta AI app, which will work as a personal assistant on phones similar to Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google Gemini and Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI.

The app includes a Discover feed where users can explore how others use AI, share prompts, and try new features, the company said.

Built using Meta's new Llama 4 model, the assistant app supports voice-based conversations with multitasking and with personalization and integration across WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, it added.

Meta View, the companion app for AI glasses, is being merged with the Meta AI app, while the Meta AI web platform has been redesigned for desktop use with support for voice, a Discover feed, and expanded tools for image creation and document editing, according to the company.
