06:31 AM EDT, 09/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) prioritized profit from its virtual-reality products over child safety, multiple outlets cited whistleblowers testifying before a US Senate panel on Tuesday.

The company shut down internal research that showed Meta was aware children were using its VR products and being exposed to sexually explicit material, media outlets quoted Cayce Savage, a former Meta user experience researcher, as saying.

Savage told the panel that researchers were instructed not to investigate harms to children so that Meta claim ignorance of the problem, Reuters reported.

She shared disturbing incidents she witnessed in the course of her work, such as children being bullied, assaulted, and asked for nude photographs, the Reuters report said.

Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
