07:06 AM EDT, 09/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) on Wednesday launched its first consumer smart glasses with a built-in display at its annual Connect conference in Menlo Park, California.
Chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg introduced the new Meta Ray-Ban Display and the wristband controller that works as a neural interface for the glasses at the event.
"Glasses are the ideal form factor for personal superintelligence because they let you stay present in the moment," Zuckerberg said.
The smart glasses include a right-lens digital display that allows video playback and reading messages.
"There are two key innovations, the display and the neural interface. The display is large enough to watch a video or read a thread of messages. It appears in one eye, it's slightly off-center, so it doesn't block your view, and it disappears after a few seconds when it's not in use so it doesn't distract you," Zuckerberg said.
The smart glasses start at $799 and will be available in stores from Sept. 30.
Meta also debuted $499 Oakley-branded fitness glasses and updated its Ray-Ban line with longer battery life and improved cameras.
Shares of Meta Platforms ( META ) were up 1% in recent Thursday premarket activity.
