05:35 PM EST, 12/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) said it expects to record an impairment charge of about $800 million in fiscal Q2 that will likely have a negative impact of roughly $0.09 on its diluted earnings per share.
The charge was not included in the Q2 guidance released on Oct. 30, the software giant said in a regulatory filing late Wednesday.
In January 2021, Microsoft ( MSFT ) announced a minority investment in General Motors ( GM ) unit Cruise. On Dec. 10, the automaker announced it intends to "realign its autonomous driving strategy, no longer fund Cruise's robotaxi development work, and pursue the acquisition of minority investor shares," leading to the impairment charge, the company said in the filing.
