Microsoft Faces Austrian Privacy Complaints Over 365 Education Software
Jun 4, 2024 4:48 AM

07:18 AM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) on Tuesday became the target of two complaints filed by privacy advocacy group NOYB to the Austrian Data Protection Authority in connection with its 365 Education software that became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic as schools switched to remote learning.

In one complaint, NYOB said that Microsoft ( MSFT ) violates children's data protection rights by shifting its responsibility as a data controller to schools, which have no control over the systems.

The second complaint centers around the cookies installed in Microsoft's ( MSFT ) 365 Education, claiming that advertisers use the cookies to track users without consent.

NOYB demanded the Austrian privacy watchdog investigate the complaints and fine the company.

In response to a request for comment by MT Newswires, a Microsoft ( MSFT ) spokesperson said the company is looking into the complaints.
