09:23 AM EDT, 03/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Natural gas fell to a three-week low early Monday as mild spring temperatures cut into heating demand for the fuel.
Gas for April delivery was last seen down $0.16 to US$2.94 per million British thermal units, the lowest since March 2.
The fuel is firmly within its shoulder season ahead of the April 1 start to the cooling season as mild spring temperatures cut into heating demand. Long-term forecasts from the National Weather Service expect most states to see warmer than seasonal temperatures over its six to 14 day outlook, while it expects near-term record heat in central states, offering some unseasonal cooling demand.
"Tuesday into Wednesday, a warm front will begin pushing east across the Great Plains, and heat will intensify once again across the central U.S. and Intermountain West. High temperatures are forecast to reach 25-35 degrees above average, with the potential to break numerous temperature records," the agency noted.
